July 18, 2023 - The horrific murder of Cascadia McCarthy Place Mental Health Aide, Haley Rogers has placed a spotlight on the issue of safety at one of Multnomah County’s mental health providers.

When contract negotiations began in May of 2023, the majority of Cascadia workers named safety as their number one concern. Frequent issues raised by members have included the scheduling of just one staff person to oversee a facility, program, or outing, in addition to a weapon risk protocol to protect staff and clients.

OHSU Postdocs Win Union Representation With AFSCME
Postdocs join the over 9,000 Oregon AFSCME represented workers at OHSU

PORTLAND, OR - After a strong majority of the over 240 postdoctoral research staff at Oregon Health and Sciences University submitted union authorization cards, the Oregon Employment Relations Board certified their union with Oregon AFSCME.

Now that the Postdocs have their union, they are looking towards bargaining their first contract.

Central City Concern and Oregon AFSCME Sign Neutrality Agreement

PORTLAND, OR, April 20, 2023—After negotiating a three-year collective bargaining agreement, Central City Concern (CCC) and the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) have signed a Neutrality Agreement declaring non-represented employees have the freedom of choice on the question of whether or not to be represented by ​Oregon ​AFSCME. Over 300 of the 1,100 CCC employees are currently represented by AFSCME.

Mourning Joseph Johnson

Oregon AFSCME mourns the senseless murder of former Correctional Officer, Joseph Johnson who was serving as a reservist with the City of Nyssa Police Department when he was killed this past weekend. Johnson is survived by his wife and two children, ages 12 and 14.

Johnson’s commitment to his community was unshakable.
